How to Treat Atopic Dermatitis Naturally

Living with atopic dermatitis definitely needs medical attention, yet natural remedies can do wonders by controlling the symptoms and thereby preventing infection. Home remedies for atopic dermatitis might not cure the condition, but they will help protect your skin against inflammation and bacterial invasion. As natural remedies are a combination of essential oils, massages, dietary changes, baths, and herbs, your skin will show signs of improvement with the passage of time.

Neem oil
To start with, you can apply neem oil on the affected area as it soothes and has a cooling effect on the skin. You could also consume neem as an ingredient by cooking the leaves as it is or by adding it in dishes for better results.

Coconut oil and camphor
In case itching is a persistent issue with severe dryness, you can mix coconut oil with camphor by the ratio of 100 ml to 1 teaspoon of purified coconut oil. You can then massage the concerned region with this solution.

Organic honey
Since atopic dermatitis can result in broken skin, one can use pure organic honey to treat inflammation and any wounds. Although this may feel sticky, it provides a cooling sensation to the skin, and the skin stays soft and supple.

Turmeric
Turmeric is probably the best natural antibiotic that can be either consumed or applied to any sort of wounds and infection. As a home remedy for atopic dermatitis, you could consume a glass of warm milk with half a teaspoon of turmeric or just use this mixture to apply on the affected region. Turmeric can also be directly applied on the itchy and dry skin for maximum benefits.

Licorice
Licorice is another excellent home remedy for atopic dermatitis. All you need to do is mix licorice root in 6 cups of water and let it boil for 30-40 minutes. After this, you can either use this liquid while bathing or just use it through a cold compress.

Colloidal oatmeal
Another great home remedy for atopic dermatitis is an oatmeal bath. You can grind the oatmeal and add it to lukewarm water, and let it rest for 15 minutes. After this bath, you must moisturize well to keep the skin hydrated.

Baking soda
Baking soda is another preferable ingredient that you can mix with coconut oil and apply on the affected areas to treat itching and inflammation. But make sure that you do not leave this mixture on your skin for too long as it may cause unnecessary irritation.

Chamomile tea
In case you have chamomile tea in your kitchen cabinet, it’s time to use it. Chamomile tea can be used through the compress method once or twice a day. This tea can also be mixed with coconut oil or any carrier oils and can be directly applied on the affected area.

Interesting note!

We at Justafive are tea lovers – flu season or not, dermatitis or not. We try a lot of teas at our offices (and our homes). Of all the teas we have had, the one that came out as a clear winner was Adagio tea. Not only did the teas taste good but they have helped clear our our skin, sinuses and also helped moderate metabolism.

Coriander leaves
Another ready to use ingredient is coriander leaves. These can be applied directly on the concerned place in the form of a paste. Alternatively, you could also drink the juice of coriander for better results.
