Natural Treatments for Dry Skin

Many things can cause dry skin, right from your daily baths to the weather. Taking care of dry skin is quite easy if done with care. Treating dry skin is now easier with a few home remedies and natural treatments.

Although there are plenty of products that claim to heal dry skin, natural remedies are pure and a better choice. A moisturizer may contain many chemicals that can harm your skin. Moreover, they are water-based products and contain fragrances and alcohol that can also cause allergic reactions and irritation, making the skin dry.

If you have dry skin, using water-based products may not help. You would need oil-based creams, as they are effective and penetrate deeper into your skin, in turn, preventing dry skin.

The skin naturally produces sebum, which helps the skin deal with the loss of moisture. However, due to habits like washing hands constantly with soap and forgetting to moisturize, strips the skin of its natural oils. This is why people with oily skin have acne; their skin produces more sebum than required. Using oil helps the skin restore its protective barrier and shine.

Natural treatments for dry skin

  • Using oil by itself or with other ingredients can help you effectively. You can either use it as an exfoliating scrub or a nourishing mask. Dry skin can benefit from avocado oil, lavender oil, and castor oil (if you do not have acne).
  • Moreover, coconut oil is an ideal choice. However, this shouldn’t be used if you have acne or suffer from eczema or atopic dermatitis, an allergic skin condition that is characterized by itching and dryness.

  • Aloe vera mixed with various oils is a natural moisturizer.
  • You can also use olive oil is a natural cleanser and moisturizer. Rub some oil into your skin and take a warm, damp cloth and drape it on the face. Keep it until it cools off and wipe off the excess oil.
  • Mix half an avocado puree with one teaspoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of honey. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes before washing it off. You will find your skin moisturized and healthy after the first use itself. Continue this as a regular moisturizer.
  • The easiest way to use your favorite oil is to pour it into the warm bath. You can let your body soak in this for 15-20 minutes and pat yourself dry without rubbing off the oil.
  • Take a cup of oatmeal and add it to your warm bathwater. This rehydrates the skin naturally and helps retain moisture from the water in the bath.
  • You can also use coconut oil at bedtime. You can use it for chapped hands and feet. Apply the oil and then wear thick socks or non-latex gloves to keep the area covered.
  • You can use milk, as it contains lactic acid, which is a natural and mild exfoliate and has anti-inflammatory properties. Use it as a compress for your skin for around ten minutes. It is helpful for itchy skin and stings.
